October 8, 2009 was supposed to be like any other day. But by 10 that night it became one of those Groundhog Days, a day you wish you can do over. I experienced what has come to be the most severe injury I have faced in 22 years (excluding emotional pain), and I would have to come to terms with what I was going to face. A torn ACL does not leave one with many options, so I opted for surgery. And 11 months to the day from that surgical procedure, I’m finally ready to take a step forward.
I began running again about a month ago, and on February 18, 2011, I ran, for the very first time without a knee brace. It was an overwhelming feeling separating yourself from the confines of a metallic restrictor. Now a month strong and new strength, new energy, and new confidence, it’s about that time to return to the way I have wanted to live. No more guilt, and no more do overs. Just any other day.
